Shtegëtari i krishterë! – The Christian Pilgrim!

Të kënaqurit me Perëndinë është e vetmja lumturi me të cilën do të kënaqet shpirti ynë. Të shkojmë në qiell, të kënaqemi plotësisht me Perëndinë, kjo është pafundësisht më e mirë se rehatitë më të kënaqshme këtu mbi tokë. Baballarët dhe nënat, bashkëshortët dhe bashkëshortet, fëmijët, apo rrethi i miqve janë veç hije, por Perëndia është realiteti. Të gjitha këto janë veç rreze të shpërndara, por Perëndia është dielli. Këto janë thjesht rrëke. Por Perëndia është oqeani.

Prandaj na ka hije që jetën ta kalojmë si një shtegëtim drejt qiellit sepse na ka hije që ta bëjmë qëllimin dhe punën kryesore të jetës tonë kërkimin dhe ndjekjen e të mirës më të lartë të mundshme ndaj së cilës i nënshtrojmë të gjitha shqetësimet e jetës. Përse të punojmë apo t’ia kushtojmë zemrën tonë ndonjë gjëje tjetër përveç asaj që është synimi dhe lumturia jonë e vertetë?

The enjoyment of God is the only happiness with which our souls can be satisfied. To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here. Fathers and mothers, husbands, wives, or children, or the company of earthly friends, are but shadows; but God is the substance. These are but scattered beams, but God is the sun. These are but streams. But God is the ocean.

Therefore it becomes us to spend this life only as a journey toward heaven, as it becomes us to make the seeking of our highest end and proper good, the whole work of our lives; to which we should subordinate all other concerns of life. Why should we labour for, or set our hearts on, any thing else, but that which is our proper end, and true happiness?
